WOMEN’S WEIGHT TRAINING
Weight training is a necessary component of every woman’s exercise program for numerous reasons such as weight loss and the fight against bone loss. This class will teach you how to use weights, physioballs, and other resistance training tools, including cardio, to reach your fitness goals at every level.

SCULPT N’ SPIN
Energized...That’s how you’ll feel after taking this exciting combo exercise class! You know that to truly meet your fitness goals you have to implement weight training & cardio into your workout. The first 45 min. you will strengthen & tone your body. The last 30 min. you will be on our NXT Spinning bikes for a cardio workout that will take you to a new level in your fitness endeavors. SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING
The Sports Performance Training Program (SPT) is for middle school, high school, college, professional and national caliber athletes. Over the last 10 years, we have trained thousands of athletes in 12 different sports from the Edwardsville and surrounding areas. We offer elite level training at an affordable cost. We are very proud to conduct the pre-season training for the EHS ladies basketball, softball & field hockey teams. We can help your team too! The Edwardsville YMCA offers programs for both high school and college men’s and women’s teams. POWER UP!
This two-day-a-week class is a total body weight workout, with a maximum of 10 participants per class. Each class consists of a dynamic warm-up, weight training, core training, HIIT and/or sustained cardio finishing with stretching. If you want to lose fat or change your body, one of the most important things you can do is lift weights combined with diet and cardio.

HEALTH & WELLNESS SESSION CLASSES

GENTLE YOGA
This class explores asana (poses) including standing, seated, twists, backbends and the fundamentals of sun salutations. Poses and sequences are practiced with alignment in mind, offering practitioners the opportunity to gain confidence, strength, and flexibility. The finer details of basic postures are emphasized with variations so that students gain comfort and learn appropriate modifications for their personal practice. The unhurried pace and simple poses make this class great for beginners while the detailed alignment instructions and spiritual context keep it interesting and valuable for all levels of yoga students. Expect a well-rounded class that includes poses, breathing, meditation and philosophy.

BEGINNERS TO INTERMEDIATE YOGA
These classes are open to all who wish to learn Yoga basics and refine their practice. Classes are open to all levels, beginner to advanced. We will practice Yoga breath (pranayama), dynamic postures (asanas), and the flow of breath (vinyasa). Through the practice of integrating breath and refining postures, participants will increase flexibility, strength and balance and feel relaxed and restored.

VINYASA
A flowing, dynamic yoga practice that cultivate presence by connecting movement with breath. This class will feature several elements of traditional Ashtanga yoga including sun salutations, standing poses, preparation for arm balances, dynamic stretching, pranayama (breath-work) & mediation. You will build strength, and balance, while reducing stress and increasing vitality.

RESTORATIVE YOGA
This practice is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. Props will be used to support posture and poses will be held for an extended period of time. This class is appropriate for students of all levels.

MAX FIT
Maximize your fitness potential with this 7 week intensive workout combining strength and cardio. After 14 workouts you can expect to see: loss of unwanted pounds and inches, improved muscle tone, increased endurance, strength, flexibility and coordination and decreased body fat. Please bring hand weights and mat. Summer Sessions will meet outside.

MIXED MARTIAL ART CONDITIONING
A powerful weapon in your fight for fitness! This class combines drills and techniques from kickboxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts for a well rounded and butt-kicking workout. Open to adults and youth who want to try grappling, kickboxing and the hard core conditioning techniques of the mixed martial artist in a controlled environment. We focus on total body conditioning using a variety of martial and sports specific conditioning for grappling and kickboxing.

At selected times each day you are able to rent a bike and create your workout utilizing the Spinner Blade. At the Edwardsville YMCA you can attain the goal you have been striving for by using a personal trainer. They can be your coach, motivator, educator and inspirational leader on your fitness journey.

A personal trainer will help determine your goals and design a program specific to your needs. They are certified and knowledgeable on a variety of topic and training regimens, allowing for flexibility, fun and ultimately progress!

PARTNER TRAINING SESSIONS

We know it’s hard to make a change alone, so we have taken the stress away by adding Partner Training Sessions! You can have your one hour session with your best friend, mom, brother or daughter! This Partner (2-on-1) method still makes it easy for you to get everything you want out of a personal trainer, but you are able to have a partner and split the cost!

HOW TO GET STARTED

You have 2 ways to get your fitness journey started:

Option 1

  1. Look over the Personal Trainers below.
  2. Choose the trainer with whom you would like to work.
  3. Download the Referral Form.
  4. Fill the form out. Please save it when you have it completed.
  5. Email the form to Dawn Cunningham at dcunningham@edwymca.com
  6. A Personal Trainer is required to contact you within 72 hours of receiving your form. If a trainer does not contact you within this time period, please contact Dawn Cunningham at 618-655-1460 ext. 2248.
Option 2
  1. Go to either the Esic or Meyer Center’s Fitness Center desks.
  2. Inquire about getting a personal trainer.
  3. Look through the personal trainer book. 
  4. Choose the trainer with whom you would like to work.
  5. Fill out a referral form & give it to an employee at the fitness center desk.
  6. The personal trainer will contact you to set up an appointment.
  7. Start achieving your goals!

If you are interested in having Individual (one-on-one) or Partner (two-on-one) sessions with a personal trainer you must be a fitness center member. 1 hour sessions are made by appointment with your trainer. If you are going to miss a session you must notify the trainer 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. In turn if a trainer is unable to conduct a scheduled session they will give 72 hours notice.

We offer experienced and professional personal fitness trainers to our members. Y trainers work with a variety of clientele including athletes, sedentary adults, seniors and teens. One of our certified personal trainers can design a personalized training program specifically for you based on your individual profile. You can choose a trainer that seems to fit your needs or have one picked out just for you!

YMCA NUTRITION COUNSELING

What To Expect:

Our registered, licensed dietitian will work with you and/or your family to glean insight into unique eating habits, lifestyle, and goals. The process will allow for the dietitian and the client to work together to create a foundational action plan for improved nutrition and wellness that is practical and sustainable.

Our Registered Dietitian Can Assist You With The Following:  

  • Practical meal preparation strategies for individuals and families of all sizes and activity levels
  • Nutritious meal plans using foods YOU and/or YOUR FAMILY enjoy
  • Becoming an empowered consumer in the grocery store

Sarah VollingMeet Our Nutritionist

Sarah Volling is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with a bachelor’s degree in education and dietetics as well as a Master’s Degree in Multi-Disciplinary Health Communications. Sarah has been working with food science and nutrition for over ten years and currently provides medical nutritional therapy at Anderson hospital part time in addition to nutrition programming and counseling here at the YMCA. Sarah has worked with individual clients of all ages, children and families, sports dietitians, as well as conducted research. This experience enables Sarah to understand and deliver the most current, scientific, personalized nutrition information to you and/or your family. Whether your goals are to manage diabetes, lower blood pressure, lose weight, gain size, handle food intolerances, or improve your family’s nutrition, Sarah can help your reach your goals by providing an individualized path to success. Sarah promotes practical solutions that engage intuitive and mindful eating to build healthy sustainable food practices for life.

HO HO HOLD YOUR WEIGHT!

Don’t let the holiday weight sneak up on you! We have a great plan to keep the weight off during the holidays! This plan will help you say “NO” to those holiday cravings & challenge you to maintain your weight within 2lbs. for 7 weeks. If you can do this you will receive your money back in a voucher that you will be able to spend on any program at the YMCA! If you gain more than 2lbs. your $20 fee will go towards our 2017 Annual Campaign program to help families in need. During the 7 weeks there will be 2 weigh-in’s to help keep you accountable. You will also receive a punch card for 4 free spin classes & weekly emails that will include an exercise challenge for the week along with a healthy recipe. First weigh-in at Esic or Meyer Fitness Center between 5:00am - 10:00pm Nov. 7th & 8th. The final weigh-in will be Dec. 23rd.

TRI ON YOUR OWN TIME

We are happy to announce that the Tri on Your Time program is coming back! The program is not currently scheduled to run in 2017. It is an indoor triathlon where you have 10 weeks to complete varying distances that you choose based on a personal fitness level. Participants will log their progress from a link on our website.

Spooktacular 5k or 2-Mile Run/Walk

Spooktacular 5k Pumpkins

The Spooktacular Run/Walk offers everyone the opportunity to get up, get active, and get healthy. We encourage individuals and families of all ages and fitness levels to participate! Sign up for either a 5K Run or a 2-Mile Family Fun Walk/Run. Every registered participant will receive a t-shirt* and participation medal! Our Family Registration Includes: 3 t-shirts & a medal for each participant Additional t-shirts may be purchased upon registration at either facility.

Wear your most spooktacular costume and be sure to visit the costume contest table!! Prizes will be given for the best kid, adult & family!

The race will start and finish at the Edwardsville YMCA Esic Center. The course is mostly on the paved bike path which is family friendly.
